Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy
My youngest daughter (3) is on her 4th day of recovery after having a Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy. She's had swallowing difficulty and ear infections for some time including snoring and what I like to call a "New Yorker's" accent. The operation took about 3 hours. According to the doctor after the operation, the adenoids and tonsils were larger than an adults in an infected stage and were causing significant breathing problems.
She's doing fine and even wanted, make that asked for solid food on the 2nd day (we chopped it up really fine). Having any child operated on is something I wouldn't wish on any parent. It's a major trust of faith in your health care provider that your child is going to come through ok. This type of operation isn't usually performed until the child is around 8, so there was an additional level of anxiety attached.
While I'll miss it to some extent, gone is her accent, but she's sleeping much more soundly now as well as the elimination of the other symptoms.
